Social Studies
U.S. History & Geography-Required 9th grade From the settling of the American West to the Reagan Era, students will study the development of modern America. Students will gain an awareness and appreciation for the heritage and culture as they take a chronological and personal look at our great history.
World History & Geography - Required 10th grade This class begins with pre-historic times and chronologically covers the great civilizations throughout the world’s history culminating in the 20th century. Focus will be on the changing world in which we live and the contributions of various people and civilizations throughout history.
This class will span the entire story of people, integrating geography, history and government.
Civics/Economics - Required 11th-12th grade The study of Civics will help students better understand and appreciate the workings and functions of our American system of democracy. Students will study the ideals upon which our country was founded and learn about the individual’s role in politics. The study of the Constitution and other historical documents will also be covered.
The study of Economics is a survey of the United States economic system in general, how it is organized, and how it works. Later in the course, issues of importance to the student’s personal economic future, such as investment, will provide ideas on how to plan for a lifetime of economic security.
Law and Society-Required 12th grade
Law acquaints students with some general legal concepts within the realm of civil, criminal, and business law. This deals with law as applied to everyday life. Rights and responsibilities are dealt with in a case method. |
