Visual, Performing, Applied Arts

Applied Arts-CAD

Auto CAD I-Elective 9th-12th
CAD I is a computer-aided design class exploring the 2-D and 3-D capabilities of the Auto CAD program. Students have the opportunity to utilize Auto CAD in various projects involving machine design and architectural design.
Prerequisite:  Successful completion of BATS CAD

Auto CAD II-Elective 10th-12th
 CAD II is an advanced computer-aided design course further exploring architectural and mechanical topics beyond those covered in Cad I.  The class emphasizes 3-D modeling and multiple detail assembly drawings.
Prerequisites:  Successful completion of BATS CAD and Auto CAD I

Auto CAD III-Elective 11th-12th
This third year CAD program is designated for students interested in pursuing careers that utilize computer-aided design. Students will further explore computer-aided design applications independently. CAD III students will have access to Auto CAD Architectural Desktop, Mechanical Desktop, and Inventor software.
Prerequisites:  Successful completion of BATS CAD, Auto CAD I, and Auto CAD II

Art Courses

Art I-Elective 9th-12th
This first year art program is text based and takes the art student through a variety of mediums while incorporating the elements and principles of art.

Art II- Elective 10th-12th
This second year art program is designed for students who want to continue the exploration of art with the knowledge gained in art one. 
Prerequisite: successful completion of Art I

Art III- Elective 11th-12th
This third year art program is meant for students who plan to continue their art education after graduation.  The main focus of this year is to explore art more independently. 
Prerequisite: successful completion of Art I and II

Art IV-Elective
This fourth year art program is to guide art students in the process of creating their portfolios for college level courses. 
Only students who plan to take art courses in college need apply.

Performing Arts

Drama I and II -Elective 9th-12th (1/2-1 credit each semester)
New students will explore on-stage disciplines, including improvisation, blocking, and pantomime.  In addition, the backstage craft will be explored.  Each student will learn about make-up, set design, and staging.  Returning students work independently on set construction, props, and costuming.  Each semester will have similar, yet different focuses.  First semester students are required to participate to some degree in a stage production.  Second semester students help with the preparation of the spring shows:  A Renaissance Dinner and a Musical.

Instrumental Music

Senior Band-Elective 9th-12th
The Breckenridge High School Senior Band is a yearlong class, and is open to all students in grades 9 through 12 who play a brass, percussion, or woodwind instrument. This performance-based class will focus on refining all musical skills required to become an advanced musician. The Senior Band includes a mandatory Marching Band, Concert Band, and an extra-curricular Basketball Pep Band. This group performs many times during the school year for community activities, school functions, district and state contests, and special performances. Individual growth and achievement are encouraged through participation in adjudicated solo and ensemble contests, honor bands, and private lessons. 
Participation in Middle School Band or approval from director is a prerequisite. 

Jazz Band- Elective 9th-12th
An advanced ensemble designed to introduce the fundamental concepts of jazz performance. Includes learning “standards”, improvising over various forms common in jazz, and performance in a “Big Band” setting. This group performs many times during the school year for community activities, school functions, contests, and special performances. 
Approval from the Band director is a required. 

Music Appreciation-Elective 9th-12th
A general introductory course designed to enhance listening enjoyment and ability. The class’s emphasis is on learning the elements of music, the characteristic styles of major historical periods, and the lives and works of key composers within the Western musical tradition. Course includes in-class demonstrations as well as performance using basic percussion skills.
This class requires no previous musical study.

Vocal Music

Choir-Elective 9th-12th
Choir is a continuation of vocal music instruction that started in the sixth grade.  It is possible to begin choir during any year in grades 9th-12th.  Choir is a yearlong class.  The student must have a desire to sing all types of music including classical, jazz, pop, etc. in preparation for many different occasions.  All choir members perform in concerts, Food with Friends, Festivals, some sporting events, and other community functions. 
Successful completion of this course requires attendance at ALL performances.

Clubs and Organizations in the Visual, Performing, Applied Arts

Breckenridge Vocal Ensemble
This group is formally known as “Madrigals” or “The Group” and is an extra-curricular activity that meets after school hours.  Students must audition for a place in this vocal ensemble.  This Ensemble performs all types of vocal music for school and community events and may be made up of a variety of voice types (i.e. all men, all women, or mixed group).

Drama Club
Members of Drama Club are provided a number of opportunities to participate in drama activities and events.  (Drama Day and Workshops that exist outside of school).  Members also participate in school related productions, such as the school musical and the Annual Renaissance Dinner.

Pep Band
This group performs many times during the school year for community activities, school functions, district and state contests, and special performances. Individual growth and achievement are encour­aged through participation in adjudicated solo and ensemble contests, honor bands, and private lessons.
