World Language

Spanish I-Elective 9th-11th
Spanish is devoted to the development of the basic skills in oral comprehension, speaking, reading, writing, and the development of cultural knowledge.  Students have the opportunity to hear and see native Spanish speakers through the audio/visual components of the program.  Lessons consist of vocabulary development in real life context, grammar rules, dialogs, reading selections, Spanish newspapers, and culturally related projects.  The program also exposes students to different Spanish speaking countries.  Learning a foreign language requires extensive memory work and a strong background in the English grammar system.  If you have failed an English class or passed one with a C- or below, this class may prove difficult for you.

Spanish II-Elective 10th-12th
This class consists of advanced study in listening comprehension, speaking, reading, writing, and culture.  Lessons will be devoted to the study of additional grammar rules, expanding the various tenses, and to the understanding of various styles of literature.  This class will continue where Spanish I left off in the text. Prerequisite:  Spanish I

Clubs and Organizations

Spanish Club
Students who are currently taking Spanish or have had Spanish are eligible for membership in this organization.  Students meet on a monthly basis with planned activities.  Experiencing the cultural aspects of the language is one of the main objectives.  Field trips to a Mexican restaurant, a Christmas fiesta, watching Spanish movies, planning Homecoming activities, and welcoming exchange students to BHS are among some of the events of the year.
